No. 1 Bulldogs Stop Mavericks, 5-0

Box Score DULUTH, Minn. – The Omaha hockey team lost to No. 1 Minnesota Duluth, 5-0, in the final game of their weekend series on Saturday night.

Five different players scored for the Bulldogs who went 3-0-1 against the Mavericks this season.  The Mavericks are now 14-11-5 overall and 7-9-2-0/0 in the NCHC, putting them in fifth place.  UMD improved to 18-5-5 overall and 12-4-2-1/1 in the conference, opening up a five-point lead over idle Denver for first place.

Minnesota Duluth scored first for the second straight game.  Willie Raskob's point shot missed the net, but Adam Johnson collected the puck and banked it into the net off the back of Evan Weninger at 12:28 of the first.

The Bulldogs got a pair of power play goals in the second period to stretch their lead.  First, Alex Iafallo put back the rebound of a shot by Dominic Toninato for his team-leading 13th goal of the year.

Just 1:35 later, a blast by Joey Anderson seem to break off Weninger and flutter into the net to make it 3-0.

In the third, former Maverick Avery Peterson and Neal Pionk added goals to complete the scoring.

Weninger finished with 30 saves while UMD's Hunter Miska stopped 27 for his fifth shutout of the season.  The game marked the second straight Saturday in which the Mavericks were shutout.

Omaha returns home to host Western Michigan on Friday and Saturday, Feb. 10-11.
