Box Score OMAHA, Neb. – No. 7 North Dakota got goals from eight different players in a 9-1 win over the No. 18 Omaha hockey team in the opener of their weekend series on Friday night.

The Fighting Hawks scored five times in the first period to hand the Mavericks their worst home loss in program history.  They improved to 11-6-3 overall and 4-4-1-1/0 in the NCHC, moving into a tie with idle Western Michigan for third.  The Mavericks dropped to 11-7-3 overall and 4-5-0-0/0 in the conference, dropping them to sixth.

UND's Brock Boeser, playing his first game after a hand injury kept him out of the lineup for a month and a half, bookended the first period, opening the scoring at 3:30 and tallied again at 14:22.  Gage Ausmus, Tyson Jost and Shane Gersich all scored in between.

Joel Janatuinen and Dixon Bowen scored for the Fighting Hawks in the second to push the lead to 7-1.

Austin Ortega snapped the shutout bid of goalie Cam Johnson with his NCHC-leading 15th goal of the year at 3:55 of the third, but UND tacked on goals from Zach Yon and Johnny Simonson to complete the scoring.

Evan Weninger took the loss, giving up four goals on nine shots.  Kris Oldham allowed four goals and made 22 saves in relief.  Johnson stopped 25 shots as UND outshot the Mavericks, 37-26.

It was the most goals given up by the Mavericks at home in school history and marked the first time they had allowed more than eight since a 10-1 loss at Michigan in the CCHA playoffs in March of 2008.

The two teams finish the series on Saturday at 7:07 p.m.
