NEBRASKA CITY, Neb. – The Omaha men's golf team opened its fall season with a seventh-place finish at its own tournament, the UNO Invitational, on Sunday.
The Mavericks posted a team score of 901 over 54 holes at ArborLinks, concluding with a round of 298 on Sunday. South Dakota won the event with a team score of 878. Northern Iowa was second at 885, and SIUE and Creighton tied for third at 891.
Kevin Gordon led the Mavericks and finished in a tie for second overall with an even-par score of 216 that featured a final round of three-under 69. It was his second straight round of 69.
Ben Maskus was second on the team and finished in a tie for seventh overall with a score of 220. He closed with an even-par score of 72 on Sunday.
Mitch Ryan was third for the Mavericks and tied for 26th with a score of 230. He closed the tournament with a round of 79. Freshman
Kelly Brown posted a 54-hole total of 242 that included a final round of 85. He finished in a tie for 40th.

Max Hellstrom concluded the scoring for the Mavericks with a score of 244. He shot a tournament-best round of 78 to finish.
Sam Musch, playing as an individual, shot his best score of the event in round three, 76, to finish at 242.
The Mavericks return to the course on Sept. 19-20 at the John Dallio Memorial hosted by DePaul.
