EDWARDSVILLE, Ill. –
Kevin Gordon is one over par through the first 36 holes, leading the Omaha men's golf team on the first day of competition at the Derek Dolenc Invitational at SIUE.
The Mavericks shot team scores of 295 and 292 in the first two rounds for a total of 587, tying them with Bradley for fifth place in the 15-team tournament. The scores by UNO were the top two team scores this season.
Missouri State leads the tournament with a score of 580, three strokes ahead of SIUE and Murray State which are tied for second.
Gordon shot a team tournament-best score of 69 in round one, two under par, and followed that up with a 74 in round two to sit at 143. That puts him in a tie for eighth in the field of 87 golfers.
Ben Maskus is second for the Mavericks and in a tie for 15th overall with a total score of 145. He shot 73 in round one and carded 72 in the second round to put him at three over par.
Kelly Brown went 76-74 for a total of 150 that has him at eight over par, good for a tie for 37th. Two shots back is teammate
Max Hellstrom who carded 80 over the first 18 and came home strong with a one-over round of 72. His score of 152 puts him in a tie for 43rd.
Mitch Ryan fired rounds of 77 and 81 for a total of 158 that has him in a tie for 74th.
The final round begins Tuesday at 8 a.m.
