Jake Guentzel was named a member of the National Collegiate Hockey Conference All-Conference Second Team on Wednesday.
It was the third time in his career that Guentzel was named to one of the NCHC's year-end teams. He was a member of the 2013-14 NCHC All-Rookie Team and last year was an Honorable Mention All-Conference. He was the only Maverick to receive first team, second team or honorable mention recognition this season.
Guentzel played in all 24 NCHC games for the Mavericks this season, leading the team in conference scoring with 13 goals and 13 assists for 26 points. He finished seventh in the NCHC in scoring in conference games. He also was third in conference goals and led the NCHC with three shorthanded goals.
The native of Woodbury, Minn. leads the team in scoring for all games with 17 goals and 25 assists for 42 points in 33 games. Both his goal and point totals are career highs. He is currently tied for third in NCHC scoring for all games played.
Voting was conducted by the head coaches and one student-athlete at each institution. Coaches and student-athletes voted for six forwards, four defensemen and two goaltenders, awarding first-place votes for six players (three forwards, two defensemen and one goaltender) and second-place votes for the other six selections. Three points were awarded for a first-place vote while one point was awarded for a second-place vote. Coaches and players were not allowed to vote for themselves or their players/teammates.
The NCHC will announce its individual award finalists on Thursday. Individual award winners will be announced at the NCHC Awards Celebration in Minneapolis, Minn. the following Thursday, March 17.
