FORT COLLINS, Colo. – At day two of the Colorado State Classic, Omaha dropped both contests on the day. In game one, the Mavericks lost 9-1 to Idaho State in five innings and fell 10-6 to Colorado State in game two.
Game One: Idaho State 9 Omaha 1 (five innings)
After falling behind 1-0, Omaha tied Idaho State in the top of the fourth inning. Sydney Hames opened the inning getting hit by a pitch. Kylie Schwarting pinch ran for Hames and was moved to second on Bailey Schulenberg's sacrifice. Kourtney Pock smashed a double to left field allowing Schwarting to score.
Idaho State plated eight runs in the bottom of the fifth on six hits to clinch the victory in five innings.
Pock notched the only extra base hit for the Mavericks with her double. Sydney Hames and Alexis Parker each had singles.
Laura Roecker allowed eight runs on nine hits over four innings of work. Roecker is now 3-6 on the season. Abbie Clanton pitched the final third of an inning allowing one run on three hits.
Game Two: Colorado State 10 Omaha 6
In the top of the first, Omaha scored two runs on three hits. Nicole Warren doubled down the left field line to start the game and was brought home on a Sydney Hames single. Hames was forced out at second as Bailey Schulenberg hit into a fielder's choice. Lizzie Noble laced a triple to right field bringing home Schulenberg.
Colorado State scored at least one run in each of the first three innings to take the lead. The Rams scored one in the first, two in the second, and one in the third for a 4-1 lead.
The Mavericks tied the game in the top of the fifth with three runs on four hits. Tara Trede and Alexis Parker each singled to open the inning. Parker moved to third and Trede scored following an error on the play. Warren hit an infield single allowing Parker to score. Noble was able to drive Warren home with a two-out single through the left side tying the game 4-4.
Colorado State exploded for six runs on six hits and a Maverick error in the bottom of the sixth.
Kelly Pattison got a run back in the top of the seventh with a solo home run to left field, but the Mavericks were unable to add any more runs.
Warren and Noble each went 2-for-4 at the plate. Warren had a double and two runs scored, while Noble had a triple and two RBI. Hames, Parker, and Trede each singled. Pattison hit her third home run of the season.
Noble started the game in the circle for Omaha pitching two innings allowing four runs on four hits. Abbie Clanton took the loss in relief by pitching 3.2 innings allowing six runs (four earned) on seven hits. Clanton struck out four, while walking three. She is 2-4 on the season. Laura Roecker pitched the final third on an inning.
Omaha returns to the diamond on Tuesday, March 8 against Northern Colorado in Greeley. First pitch is set for 2 p.m. (CT).
