Box Score OMAHA, Neb. – No. 4 North Dakota finished off a sweep of the No.13 Omaha hockey team, winning 4-1 on Saturday night.
The Mavericks dropped their last four games at Baxter Arena to fall to 18-13-1 overall and 8-13-1-0/0 in the NCHC, putting them in sixth place. The loss ended UNO's chances at earning home ice advantage for the first round of the NCHC playoffs. The Mavericks can finish no higher than fifth place.
North Dakota improved to 26-5-3 overall and 17-4-1-0/1 in the conference, putting it in first place by six points over St. Cloud State which lost its second in a row to Minnesota Duluth on Saturday.
In a reversal of Friday night's game, North Dakota took the first lead of the game late in the first period. Johnny Simonson dug the puck off the right wing wall to Keaton Thompson who walked in a fired a shot past Evan Weninger who was screened on the play.
The Fighting Hawks stretched their lead to 3-0 in the second period on goals by Austin Poganski and Bryn Chyzyk, but the Mavericks finally got on the board late in the period.
Luc Snuggerud's shot from the left point tipped in off a UND defender at 17:27. Ryan Galt and Luke Nogard picked up assists. The goal marked Snuggerud's career high for points in a season (17).
UND finished the scoring when Brock Boeser scored his NCHC-leading 22nd of the year at 14:40 of the third.
Evan Weninger made 33 saves while Cam Johnson stopped 26 for North Dakota as the Fighting Hawks outshot the Mavericks, 37-27.
UNO's four-game losing streak ties its longest of the year.
The Mavericks finish the regular season at Denver on Friday and Saturday, March 4-5.
