Box Score OMAHA, Neb. – No. 2 Minnesota Duluth got goals from six different players to earn a 6-4 win over the Omaha hockey team on Friday at Baxter Arena.
The Mavericks scored all four of their goals on the power play but could not overcome a veteran UMD team that improved to 9-2-2 overall and an NCHC-best 6-1-0-0 this season. UNO dipped to 6-4-1 overall and 3-2-0-0 in the NCHC.
The Mavericks scored first for the ninth time in 11 games this season.
Ian Brady's shot from the point was wide, but the puck bounced to
Jake Randolph. He swept it across the slot to
Steven Spinner who fired the puck past goaltender Hunter Miska for a powerplay goal at 9:02.
UMD tied the game just 2:27 later. Kyle Osterberg roofed the rebound of a shot by Adam Johnson for his seventh goal of the year.
On a power play a little more than four minutes later, the Bulldogs grabbed their first lead when Johnson beat
Evan Weninger with a shot from the left point.
The Mavericks got another goal from Spinner to tie the game early in the second period. He hammered home the rebound of a shot by
Teemu Pulkkinen at 6:35.
But UMD countered with goals from Dominic Toninato and Alex Iafallo to take a 4-2 lead after two.
The Bulldogs added to their lead with goals from Billy Exell and Karson Kuhlman in the first 10 minutes of the third, but the Mavericks battled back when UMD got whistled for two late minors.
Luc Snuggerud scored off a quick shot from the point at 13:35, and
David Pope tipped in a shot from Snuggerud at 18:43.
Weninger played 33:30, getting lifted after UMD's fourth goal. He finished with 22 saves.
Alex Blankenburg finished the game and took the loss with six saves.
The two teams conclude the series on Saturday at 7:07 p.m.
