POWELLS POINT, N.C. – The Omaha men's golf team moved up one spot to ninth after the second round of the ODU/OBX Intercollegiate on Monday.
Kevin Gordon's second straight below par round helped the Mavericks post the best 18-hole team score in the Division I era, a round of 285 that gives them a total of 581. Ball State still leads with a total score of 558 after firing a tournament low round of 277 on Monday. Akron is second at 561, and host Old Dominion is third at 565.
Gordon shot three-under-par 68 at Kilmarlic Golf Club in round two, posting seven birdies including a stretch of three in a row on the back side. His two-day score of 138 has him in a four-way tie for fourth in the field of 93 golfers.
Mitch Ryan is second for the Mavericks and tied for 38th overall after shooting an even-par round of 71 to put him at 147 for the tournament.
Ryan is two strokes ahead of both
Kelly Brown and
Ben Maskus who are tied for third on the team and tied for 47th overall at 149. Maskus was one-over 72, and Brown shot a three-over 74 in round two.
Max Hellstrom completed the scoring for UNO with a second round tally of 79 that has him at 154 for the tournament, good for a tie for 65th.
The final round of the tournament and the Mavericks' fall season is Tuesday at 7 a.m. CT.
