Box Score FAIRBANKS, Alaska – Freshman
Kris Oldham won his first career game, and classmates
Ryan Jones and
Tristan Keck scored in their collegiate debuts, powering the Omaha hockey team to a 3-1 win over Alaska Anchorage on Friday night.
Austin Ortega also scored as the Mavericks won their first game in the Brice Alaska Goal Rush. They'll finish the tournament on Saturday when they play host Alaska at 10:07 p.m. CT.
The Mavericks opened the scoring at 9:39 of the first when freshman
Zach Jordan spotted Jones sneaking in from the left point. Jones took the pass and rifled a shot past goalie Rasmus Reijola for his first collegiate goal.
Just 11 seconds later, Keck had his first collegiate tally. He snapped home a face-off win from classmate
Teemu Pulkkinen giving freshmen both goals and two of three assists on the first two goals.
Alaska Anchorage trimmed the lead on a power play in the second period. Jonah Renouf scooped up a rebound and tucked it past Oldham at 16:10.
Ortega snuffed out any comeback bid by UAA in the third period when he knocked home a pass from
Jake Randolph for a powerplay goal at 6:22.
Oldham finished with 23 saves, following both teammates
Evan Weninger and
Alex Blankenburg who did so last season, Weninger against Minnesota State and Blankenburg against North Dakota.
The Mavericks were 1-for-6 on the power play while UAA went 1-for-8.
