Box Score 2 MACOMB, Ill. -- The Omaha baseball team snapped a nine-game losing skid Saturday, splitting a doubleheader at Western Illinois with a 2-1 loss in game one and a 4-0 victory in game two. The Mavericks are now 18-27 (11-15 Summit League), while the Leathernecks drop to 16-30 (9-17 Summit League).
Senior right-hander
Zach Williamsen (7-6) threw a complete-game shutout in the second game of the afternoon, as the Omaha native registered a career-high 10 strikeouts in the win.
GAME 1 -- WESTERN ILLINOIS 2, OMAHA 1In the opening contest, Jordan Pannell (2-1) earned the win in relief for the Leathernecks, throwing 1.2 innings and Omaha to two hits with three strikeouts and no walks. Senior left-hander
Cole Volkers (1-2) took the loss, allowing two runs on two hits and two walks in 0.1 innings pitched.
Sophomore
Mark Handberg led the Mavericks at the plate, going 2-for-3 with a run scored. Junior
Cole Gruber joined him with another 2-for-3 effort.
Mark Garton paced Western offensively by going 2-for-3, including the game-winning two-run single in the bottom of the ninth.
After seven scoreless innings, Omaha finally broke through the 0-0 stall in the top of the eighth inning. Handberg placed a one-out single down the right field line and redshirt freshman
Isaac Holt walked, putting two runners on. Following a Leatherneck pitching change, redshirt freshman
Ryan Cate delivered an RBI double to score Handberg, putting UNO ahead 1-0.
The lead was short-lived, however, as Western rallied in the bottom of the ninth for a walkoff win. Colton Pogue led off with a single through the right side and advanced to second on a wild pitch. After a strikeout, the Leathernecks saw JJ Reimer draw a four-pitch walk and Chris Tschida get on base with a full-count walk. Garton then laced a two-run single through the left side to plate Reimer and Pogue, and WIU seized the victory, 2-1.
GAME 2 -- OMAHA 4, WESTERN ILLINOIS 0Williamsen starred in the second game, earning the victory on the hill with his complete-game shutout. The Millard West product held the Leathernecks to six singles and one walk over 9.0 innings while striking out 10. Tom Constand (3-7) was tagged with the loss for WIU, surrendering three runs on eight hits and four walks over 6.2 innings.
Junior
Alex Schultz led Omaha at the plate, finishing 2-for-4 with two runs scored. Cate was also 2-for-5 in game two.
The Mavericks got on the board early to support Williamsen's mound effort, recording two runs on four hits in the top of the third. With two outs, junior

Clayton Taylor, who sent an RBI single to center that drove in Schultz. Junior
Alex Mortensen then singled to push Gruber across, which spotted UNO a 2-0 lead.
Omaha added another run in the seventh when Schultz scored on a wild pitch. The Mavericks notched their final tally in the eighth as Holt reached on a throwing error to start the inning and later scored on a wild pitch, bringing the score to 4-0. Western Illinois managed one last hit in the bottom of the ninth with a Tschida single, but Williamsen got out of it with his 10th and final strikeout of the game, fanning Garton looking to capture the win.
