The Mavericks then knotted the score in the bottom half of the inning. Junior

In the sixth, Greg Kaiser led off with a double to right and advanced to third on a throwing error on the play. Two batters later, Shannon Baker's sacrifice fly to left drove in Kaiser to help IPFW regain the lead at 2-1.
The Mastodons' advantage was swiftly extended to 6-1 in the seventh on a Shane Trevino grand slam over the left field wall. Fort Wayne added one last run in the eighth with Kaiser's RBI single to left, which drove in Evan VanSumeren for a final score of 7-1.
