Box Score ST. CLOUD, Minn. – Seven different players scored for the No. 6 Omaha Mavericks, helping them to a 7-2 win over No. 7 St. Cloud State on Saturday at the Herb Brooks National Hockey Center.
The win gave the Mavericks a split of the weekend series and snapped a five-game losing streak to the Huskies. Omaha is now 12-3-1 overall and 4-3-1-0/0 in the NCHC, putting them in fourth place. The Huskies are 12-4-0 overall and 6-2-0-0/0 in the conference, good for second.
The Mavericks struck first in the game.
Jake Guentzel pounced on a loose puck in the St. Cloud State crease and fired home his 10th goal of the season at 5:18.
UNO's lead went to 2-0 on a power play at 3:21 of the second period.
David Pope took a pass from
Jake Randolph and snapped the puck through SCSU goalie Charlie Lindgren for his fourth goal in five games.
Brian Cooper made is 3-0 just past the halfway mark of the period. His slap shot from the top of the slot slipped under Lindgren for this third goal of the season.
St. Cloud State responded just 48 seconds later when Jimmy Schuldt hammered home a pass from David Morley.
But the Mavericks got the goal back less than three minutes later when
Ryan Galt scooped up the rebound of a shot by
Luke Nogard and fired it past a sprawling Lindgren for his first collegiate goal.
In the third, the Mavericks poured it on.
Justin Parizek scored a powerplay goal at 1:49, and
Mason Morelli notched his first collegiate goal less than three minutes later to put UNO up 6-1.
SCSU got a powerplay goal from Robby Jackson at 9:16, but
Ian Brady answered with a powerplay tally less than three minutes later for the final score. It was Brady's first goal of the season.
Evan Weninger made 31 saves for his sixth straight win, improving to 9-1-0 this season. Lindgren, who had backstopped every game of SCSU's five-game winning streak against UNO, took the loss, allowing four goals in 21 shots. Rasmus Reijola played almost 26 minutes of relief and allowed three goals on 14 shots.
Nogard had two assists for his first career multiple-point game. Randolph also had two assists while Brady, Parizek and Pope all finished with a goal and an assist.
The Mavericks scored three powerplay goals on five chances, the second time in three games that they've had three powerplay goals in a game.
Omaha has a week off before hosting Arizona State on Saturday and Sunday, Dec. 19-20.
