Box Score OMAHA, Neb. – The No. 6 Omaha hockey team stayed undefeated at Baxter Arena with a 3-1 win over Ohio State on Friday night.
The Mavericks, 5-0-0 at home, improved to 10-2-1 overall while the Buckeyes fell to 3-8-0.
The Mavericks broke a scoreless tie 1:12 in to the second period.
Austin Ortega brought the puck down the right wing and found
Luc Snuggerud trailing the play. Snuggerud's wrist shot deflected past goalie Christian Frey for his first goal of the season.
Omaha stretched its lead at 6:43 when
David Pope collected a pass from
Justin Parizek and got into the open on the left wing. He beat Fry with a hard wrist shot for his second goal in as many games.
Evan Weninger had another strong night in goal, stopping 34 shots to improve to 7-1-0. He made 26 saves over the final two periods.
OSU defenseman broke up Weninger's shutout streak when he scored a powerplay goal at 12:53 of the third period, but Ortega added an empty-net goal with 1:02 remaining to seal the win.
The two teams conclude the series on Saturday at 7:07 p.m.
