Box Score KALAMAZOO, Mich. – Western Michigan raced out to a 3-0 lead in the first period and never let up, beating the No. 1/2 Omaha hockey team, 6-1, on Saturday night at Lawson Arena.
The Broncos swept the weekend series to improve to 4-2-1 overall and 2-0-0-0 in the NCHC while the Mavericks fell to 6-2-0 overall and 0-2-0-0 in the conference.
Western Michigan grabbed the first lead for the second straight game when J.T. Osborn scored off a pass from Colt Conrad at 7:36.
Conrad doubled the lead 2:30 later when he skated out of the corner untouched and slipped a shot under UNO goaltender

Western Michigan stretched its lead before the period ended. Chris Dienes knocked in a centering pass from Osborn at 18:00 to put the Broncos in control.
The Mavericks carried play for stretches of the second period, but Mike McKee scored on a long-range snap shot to boost the Broncos' advantage to 4-0 after two.
Osborn picked up his second of the game at 1:52 of the third period before
Jake Guentzel scored shorthanded for UNO to break up the shutout bid of WMU goalie Lukas Hafner. But it was the only offense UNO would be able to muster against the suffocating attack of the Broncos.
Sheldon Dries added a late goal for the final score.
Weninger was saddled with the loss, giving up three goals on 12 shots in the first. He's now 3-1-0. Hafner stopped 37 shots in the win.
The Mavericks return home to host Minnesota Duluth on Friday and Saturday, Oct. 6-7.
