The Wildcats were led by All-American Ross Kivett, who went 2-for-4 with a run scored. Clayton Dalrymple was 2-for-3 with two runs, and Mitch Meyer had a three-run homer to finish 1-for-4.
Kansas State took a 1-0 lead in the first, as Kivett led off with a double down the left field line and later scored unearned on a Maverick error. The lead stretched to 2-0 in the third, with Dalrymple leading off with a single to center, advancing on a sacrifice bunt and a passed ball and scoring on a sacrifice fly to center by Shane Conlon.
Omaha got on the board in the fifth, as senior
Tyler Splichal drew a two-out walk and scored immediately on Jewett's RBI triple to center. The Mavericks then took the lead at 3-2 on a two-out, two-run double by Bass, scoring Schultz and sophomore Cole in the top of the sixth. UNO added another run that inning as Bass was plated on a single to right from Palensky, pushing it to 4-2.
K-State rallied in the bottom of the frame with Meyer's three-run homer to right field. But in the top of the eighth, Schultz connected on a 2-0 fastball for a solo shot to right, knotting the game at 5-5.
The bottom of the ninth saw Falcone fan Alex Bee for the first out of the inning. Dalrymple then singled with a chopper over the mound, and Kivett followed with a single to the right side, with both runners advancing on the throw. Conlon was intentionally walked to load the bases, and Falcone came through by striking out Austin Fisher. RJ Santigate then came to the plate, and a wild pitch allowed Dalrymple to tally the winning run for a final score of 6-5.
