It was a cruel end to a game that Omaha had taken over in the second period.
After a scoreless first, the Mavs broke the deadlock at the end of a power play halfway through the second period.
Brian Cooper fired a pass through center ice that sent
Tyler Vesel into the UMD zone. He held up and then fed a pass to
Justin Parizek who slipped a backhander inside the left post for his third goal in as many games.
Just 1:27 later, the Mavericks doubled their lead.
David Pope and
Jono Davis broke into the zone 2-on-1. Pope used Davis as a decoy before zipping a shot just under the crossbar past goalie Kasimir Kaskisuo. It was his second straight game with a goal.
Massa was the busier goaltender in the game, stopping 33 shots in his first loss of the season (5-1-1). Kaskisuo, a freshman from Finland, made 22 saves for his eighth win of the year.
