Box Score OMAHA, Neb. – The Omaha women's soccer team dropped its first conference match of the season 2-1 in double overtime to Oral Roberts on Sunday afternoon at Caniglia Field.
Omaha drops to 5-10-2 overall and 3-1-2 in Summit League play. Oral Roberts improves to 3-8-3 overall and 2-3 in league play.
After a scoreless first half, Omaha got on the scoreboard first in the 57th minute. Junior Chelsi Rohloff dribbled through a pair of Oral Robert defenders before blasting a shot past the keeper. The goal was the tenth of the season for Rohloff.
The Mavericks kept the lead until the 81st minute, when Oral Roberts was awarded a penalty kick. ORU's Ashley Martin scored the PK to level the score at 1-1. Omaha's Chelsi Rohloff had a chance in the fleeting moments of regulation, but her shot was saved by ORU.
Each team had one shot in the first overtime. The Golden Eagles' Lexi Jones stole a pass from a Maverick defender. She played a ball in to Maria Stordahl who found separation from her defender. Stordahl placed a shot just out of the reach of UNO goalkeeper Haley Shelton for the game winner.
Oral Roberts held a 20-12 shot advantage for the game. Courtney Neville led UNO with four shots.
UNO goalkeeper Haley Shelton made 11 saves in the loss.
Omaha will wrap up the season on the road next weekend. UNO will travel to Macomb, Ill. to play Western Illinois on Friday, October 31. Kick-off will be at 3:00 p.m. The Mavericks will wrap up their season on Sunday, Nov. 2 in Indianapolis, Ind. against IUPUI at 12:00 p.m.
