Mavs Sweep Kansas City to Move to 5-0 in Summit Le

. - The UNO softball team earned a pair of 2-1 victories on Saturday over Kansas City. The Mavericks fought off the Kangaroos in 10 innings in game one and followed with another one-run victory in game two.

With the wins, Omaha is now 27-4 overall and 5-0 in The Summit League. Kansas City dropped to 11-16 overall and 0-2 in league play.

The series concludes on Sunday at Noon.

Game 1
Allie Mathewson went 3-for-5 with an RBI and the winning run in the top of the 10th inning to lead the Mavs. Mathewson tripled with one out in the 10th inning and scored on Tara Trede's single to left field to make it 2-1.

Dana Elsasser (16-4) pitched all 10.0 innings, allowing one earned run on six hits, four walks and four strikeouts. The Kangaroos loaded the bases in the bottom of the 10th with two outs, but Elsasser got Katie Kelley to foul out to right field to finish the win.

UMKC took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the fourth inning with a two-out double and an RBI single. The Mavericks tied the game at 1-1 in the top of the sixth inning. Lindsay Redding hit a one-out single, and Mathewson doubled to the gap in left center to score Redding.

Mathewson finished the day with a single, double and triple for three of the Mavs' five hits. Trede and Redding recorded the other two hits.

Game 2
Ashton Hughes improved to 7-0 in the circle this season, pitching 6.2 innings with one earned run and eight hits allowed with no walks and two strikeouts.

With the Mavs clinging to a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the seventh, UMKC loaded the bases with one out on Hughes. Hughes got a groundout to Tonya Peterson at shortstop, but one run scored from third to make it 2-1 with two outs and runners on second and third. Dana Elsasser came on and struck out Brooke Parker to close out the win for her third save of the season.

The Mavs scored both of their runs in the top of the fourth inning. Allie Mathewson drew a leadoff walk and moved to second on a sacrifice bunt by Tara Trede. With two outs gone, Amber Lutmer singled up the middle to score Mathewson for a 1-0 lead. Molly Negrete then singled to move Lutmer to second. Tonya Peterson produced a double to left center that scored Lutmer to make it 2-0.

Negrete finished 2-for-3 in the second game of the doubleheader.
