Campbell Ditto was 2-for-3 with a two-run double and solo home run, and the UNO softball team finished the series sweep of IUPUI with a 3-0 win on Sunday at Westside Field at Westbrook.
The Mavericks improved to 30-5 and 8-1 in The Summit League with their second straight home sweep. IUPUI fell to 15-22 overall and 5-10 in Summit League play.
The Mavs didn't mess around, striking for two runs in the first inning before any outs were recorded.
Allie Mathewson singled in the infield to start the game.
Tara Trede bunted to the pitcher, but Mathewson beat the throw to second. Ditto then laced a pitch to right center to score both Mathewson and Trede for a 2-0 lead.
The Mavs loaded the bases with one out in both the second and third innings but failed to come away with a run.
IUPUI threatened in the top of the fourth inning, putting runners on second and third with no outs. But
Dana Elsasser got a strikeout, a groundout to Trede at second base and a lineout to
Amber Lutmer at first base to get out of the jam.
Ditto boosted the Mavs in the bottom of the fourth with a solo home run for a 3-0 lead. The freshman catcher lined a pitch from Cassie Vodde just over the wall in left field for her sixth home run of the season and second of the series.
The win didn't come easily though. In the Jaguars' last at bat, two Maverick errors in the infield loaded the bases with two outs. But Elsasser got Ali Mosier to strike out looking to end the game.
Elsasser (18-5) pitched the complete-game shutout and allowed four hits with eight strikeouts and two walks.
In addition to Ditto's 2-for-3, three RBI performance, Mathewson finished 2-for-4 with one run.
Molly Negrete also had a single, as the Mavs outhit the Jaguars, 5-4.
The Mavs now have a quick turnaround before their next Summit League series at South Dakota on Tuesday (2 and 4 p.m.) and Wednesday (2 p.m).
