DULUTH, Minn. – Minnesota Duluth scored four goals in the second period and then hung on for a 5-4 win over the Omaha hockey team on Friday night at AMSOIL Arena.

The loss was the third in a row for UNO which is now 18-15-2 overall and 14-11-2 in the WCHA.  Pending the outcome of Denver's home game against Alaska Anchorage, the Mavs could fall into seventh place if DU wins.

The Mavs led 3-1 after one period and had a chance to stretch their lead just 32 seconds into the second period when Justin Crandall was given a five-minute checking-from-behind major and a game misconduct, but UMD killed off the penalty.

Just 19 seconds after the penalty ended, Dan DeLisle scored his second goal of the year to make it 3-2.  It was the start of four straight goals for UMD.  Joe Basaraba tallied at 7:22 to tie the game, and then Mike Seidel scored two powerplay goals just 37 seconds apart to put UMD up 5-3 after two.

Johnnie Searfoss gave the Mavs life when he scored just 1:01 into the third but in spite of a 10-5 shot advantage in the third period, they could not net the equalizer.

UNO picked up the first goal for the first time in four games.  Ryan Walters threw a backhand pass from behind the net that Josh Archibald rifled home for his career-best 19th goal of the year.  The assist for Walters was his 50th point of the season, making him just the third Maverick to score 50 or more points in a single season.

Just 40 seconds later, Archibald contributed to another goal.  He raced into the UMD zone and fired a shot from the top of the faceoff circles.  It handcuffed goalie Matt McNeely and dropped in the crease.  Andrej Sustr, following the play, poked the loose puck home for his career-best ninth goal of the year.

The Bulldogs got one back when Austin Farley converted a pass from Tony Cameranesi at 14:50.

But the Mavericks got a power play just after the goal, and Zahn Raubenheimer boosted UNO's lead to 3-1 just 51 seconds after the UMD goal.  He jammed in the rebound of a shot by Matt White for his career-best ninth goal of the year.

The game was the second in a row that UNO had surrendered four goals in the second period.

John Faulkner, who relieved starter Ryan Massa after the fourth goal, took the loss with six saves on seven shots.  McNeely stopped 24 to earn his 10th win.

The two teams conclude the regular season on Saturday night at 7:07 p.m.
