Box Score COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – Colorado College scored two second-period goals and then held off the UNO hockey team down the stretch, winning 4-2 on Friday night at Colorado Springs World Arena.
The Mavericks drop to 8-7-0 overall and 5-2-0 in the National Collegiate Hockey Conference. The Tigers snapped a 12-game winless streak (0-10-2) to improve to 2-10-2 overall and 2-5-2 in the NCHC.
The Tigers got the first power play of the game and cashed in when Alexander Krushelnyski tucked in the rebound of a shot by Alex Roos at 11:14 of the first period.
The Mavericks countered with their own powerplay goal to tie it late in the first period.
Brock Montpetit worked the puck behind the net to
Jake Guentzel. Guentzel threw the puck out to
Ian Brady who had pinched down from the right-wing point, and Brady fired home his third goal of the year at 17:23.
Colorado College stretched its lead in the second period with a goal from Jared Hanson at 6:06 and another from Sam Rothstein at 14:30 to make it 3-1 after two.
In spite of the goals allowed, UNO goaltender
Ryan Massa was outstanding, stopping several tough chances to keep his team close.
The Mavericks drew to within 3-2 when
Zahn Raubenheimer knocked in a pass from
Johnnie Searfoss at 7:25 of the third period. It was Raubenheimer's first goal since opening night against Bentley on Oct. 11.
But the Tigers cashed in on a turnover when Jeff Collett tipped in a pass from Gustav Olofsson at 13:31.
Massa finished with 24 saves and saw his personal five-game winning streak come to an end. CC's Josh Thorimbert turned aside 23 shots for the win.
The two teams conclude their series on Saturday at 7:07 p.m. MT.
