SPRINGFIELD, Mo. - Missouri State handed the UNO women's soccer team a 3-0 loss Friday night at Plaster Field.
After a scoreless first half, the Bears scored twice in the opening 16 minutes of the second half and added a late tally for the 3-0 win. Missouri State improved to 2-2 on the season, while the Mavs fell to 0-2.
In the first half, the Bears outshot UNO 5-2 overall, but
Meaghan Clark made two saves to keep the Mavs deadlocked at the break.
In the second half, Molly Brewer opened the scoring at the 49:51 mark on an assist from Lauren Fussell. In the 62nd minute, Michelle Sommer doubled the margin for the Bears by getting behind the Maverick back line and beating Clark with a low shot.
The Bears capped the scoring in the 85th minute as Katie Davis finished a centering pass from Kristina Tomaras.
The Mavs finished with three shots on goal, by
Jordyn Braun,
Hannah Wampler and
Melanie McCormick. Missouri State had eight shots on goal, with Clark finishing with five saves.
UNO returns home on Sunday to host 2011 NCAA Tournament qualifier Utah State at the UNO Soccer Field at Noon in the team's home opener.
