OMAHA, Neb. - Amber Lutmer hit two grand slams in game one, and the UNO softball team earned an 11-0 (5 inn.), 0-2 split against South Dakota on Wednesday at Westside Field at Westbrook.
The Mavericks moved to 16-13 on the season and recorded their first home win over a Division I opponent as a Division I program. The Coyotes are now 9-28 overall. South Dakota owns a 6-6 Summit League record, the conference the Mavs will join next year.

Lauren Larson opened the scoring with a two-run single in the second inning. With the bases loaded, Larson laced the first pitch from Missy Blackburn up the middle to score
Molly Negrete from third and
Mara Eeman from second. After
Katelyn Hinton was hit by a pitch to reload the bases,
Amber Lutmer cranked a grand slam over the left field wall for her sixth homer of the season to make it 6-0.
In the bottom of the third inning, the Mavs posted five more runs to take an 11-0 lead. With the bases loaded,
Lindsay Redding tapped one to new pitcher Paige Policky, who bobbled the ball, allowing
Lindsay Gilliland to score from third. Larson then grounded into a fielder's choice that forced out Eeman at home, and Hinton popped up to second. Lutmer then stepped up with the bases loaded and two outs and hit a shot to nearly the exact same spot as her first grand slam, making it 11-0.
Lutmer's eight RBIs in the game tied the school record. She now has seven homers on the season and five in her last four games. Redding finished 2-for-3 with two runs scored.
Dana Elsasser pitched comfortably to the win, allowing just two hits and one walk. Elsasser struck out seven to improve to 9-6 on the season. All 11 of the Mavericks' runs were unearned, as the Coyotes committed three costly errors. Blackburn took the loss, going 2.0 innings while allowing six hits, three walks and seven runs.
South Dakota 2, UNO 0
Erica Denney stifled the Maverick bats, allowing just four hits, as the Coyotes picked up the win to split the doubleheader.
Lindsey Boyd singled to centerfield to open the top of the sixth and advanced all the way to third after the ball scooted under Hinton's glove. Boyd eventually scored on an RBI single by Alexa Rudeen for a 1-0 Coyote lead.
Morgan Hancock gave USD a little bit of breathing room with a leadoff home run to left field in the top of the seventh. The Mavs were retired in order to end the game.
Kat Barrow (5-5) took the loss after giving up five hits, two runs (one earned) and two walks.
Tonya Peterson, Redding, Larson and Negrete all singled for UNO.
The Mavs return home on Friday for a single game against Peru State at 5 p.m.
