VERMILLION, S.D. - The UNO softball team posted its second straight sweep over a Division I team, as the Mavericks swept South Dakota, 1-0 and 2-0, on Tuesday at the USD Softball Complex.
The Mavs improved to 23-14 on the season while taking the season series over South Dakota, 3-1. UNO previously swept Great West Conference foe North Dakota on Sunday.

The Mavericks took game one after scoring the game's lone run in the third inning. After
Ashley Lynch walked,
Mara Eeman drove her home with a double to the left centerfield gap.
That would be all the run support
Dana Elsasser would need. Elsasser (13-7), the reigning GWC Pitcher of the Week, shut out the Coyotes for her second straight shutout. Elsasser struck out four and walked just one while allowing four hits.
Eeman finished 1-for-2 with an RBI.
Tonya Peterson went 2-for-3, while
Molly Negrete added a double.

The Mavs again struck first in the third inning, this time for two runs. Peterson drew a one-out walk, and
Lindsay Redding reached on a fielder's choice that Peterson advanced to second on.
Lauren Larson stepped in and doubled to left field to score both Peterson and Redding.
Amber Lutmer and
Katelyn Hinton then drew successive walks to load the bases. But new pitcher Missy Blackburn struck out the next two Mavericks to get the Coyotes out of the jam relatively unscathed.
But the damage was done, as
Kat Barrow and Elsasser combined for the shutout. Barrow picked up the win, going 6.1 innings allowing six hits with two strikeouts. Elsasser came on in the bottom of the seventh inning with runners on the corners and one out. She got consecutive batters to ground out to end the game and earn her second save of the season.
Larson finished 1-for-2 with two RBIs. Redding went 1-for-3 with a run, while Lutmer and Negrete each added singles.
The Mavs are back in action next Wednesday at Drake.
