LAS VEGAS, Nev.
– The UNO baseball team split a doubleheader at UNLV on Saturday, falling 11-2 before taking an 8-6 win at Wilson Stadium. The Mavericks are now 11-24 on the year, while the Rebels are 16-19.

GAME 1 – UNLV 11, UNO 2
In game one, senior Brady Hohl and freshman Jared Patton both finished 2-for-4 and each scored a run in the eighth inning.

Mark Shannon and Brandon Bayardi each tallied three hits in the contest, with Shannon driving in four runs and scoring twice.

The win was credited to Erick Fedde (3-3), who limited UNO to three hits over 7.0 scoreless innings, striking out seven and walking one. Junior Matt Tew (1-4) took the loss, allowing 10 runs – seven earned – off nine hits. Tew struck out two and issued four walks over his 4.1-inning outing.

After three innings, UNLV led 2-0, then exploded for a five-run fourth inning. The Rebels added a three-spot in the fifth, holding a 10-0 advantage until the top of the eighth. UNO finally got on the board in that frame with senior Colby McCord's two-run double down the right field line that scored Hohl and Patton and made it 10-2.

UNLV tacked on another run in the bottom of the eighth, bringing the final score to 11-2.

GAME 2 – UNO 8, UNLV 6
In game two, McCord finished 3-for-5 with a home run, two runs scored and two RBI, while senior Mark Waldron was 3-for-5 with two runs driven in and another scored. In addition, Patton tallied a hit, a run scored, and two RBI.

Junior Derek Landis (1-2) earned his first win of the season, allowing one run on three hits in relief. Landis also struck out two batters with two walks over 3.0 innings. UNLV starter Joe Robinson (2-5) took the loss, giving up five runs on six hits with two walks in the first 0.2 innings. Freshman Cole Volkers picked up his first career save, fanning three with one walk while giving up one run on a pair of hits.

The Mavericks had an outstanding start in the nightcap, scoring five runs on six hits in the first inning alone. McCord singled through the left side, and sophomore Caleb Palensky walked, followed by Waldron's RBI single to right that brought in McCord. Patton then sent a two-run triple down the right field line, then scored on freshman Alex Mortensen's RBI single to left. Mortensen was plated on senior Scotty Donner's RBI single, spotting UNO a 5-0 lead.

In the second inning, Palensky got things rolling with an infield single and advanced to second on a balk. He then came in with Waldron's RBI single up the middle, extending the Mavericks' advantage to 6-0.

UNLV scored four runs on four hits in the third -- helped by Bayardi's two-run homer to left – and made it 6-4.

UNO pushed it to 8-4 in the sixth with McCord's two-run roundtripper to right.

The Rebels managed one run in the sixth but entered the bottom of the ninth facing a three-run deficit. With one out, Daniel Higa homered to left, but Volkers struck out both of the final batters to cap the win at 8-6.

UNO returns to action with Sunday's series finale at UNLV, and first pitch is set for 3:05 p.m. (CT) at Wilson Stadium. Links to live stats, live video and live audio will be available on OMavs.com.
