OMAHA, Neb. – The Denver Pioneers got 26 saves from Juho Olkinuora to beat the UNO Mavericks, 3-0, on Friday in the opener of their weekend series.

The loss keeps the Mavericks from clinching home ice advantage for the WCHA playoffs.  They'll try to do so on Saturday when the two teams conclude the regular season on Saturday night at 7:07 p.m.

Denver opened the scoring at 6:07 of the first period.  Scott Mayfield flung the puck to the high slot where Shawn Ostrow steered it in for his 10th goal of the year.

The Pioneers doubled their lead later in the period when Chris Knowlton redirected a pass from Mayfield on goal.  Ryan Massa made the first save, but Jason Zucker pounced on the rebound and whipped it to the top corner.

DU stretched its lead on a power play in the second period.  Drew Shore squeezed a shot between Massa and the post for his 20th goal of the year.  

Olkinuora earned his second shutout of the season with 26 saves.  He has now blanked the Mavericks for more than five straight periods.  Massa made 26 saves as well.
