OMAHA, Neb. – Defenseman Michael Young scored a third-period powerplay goal to send the Omaha hockey team to a hard-fought 3-2 win over Minnesota Duluth on Saturday night at the CenturyLink Center.

It was the third win in a row for the Mavericks who improved to 5-3-1 overall and 3-1-1 in the WCHA.  The Bulldogs are now winless in their last four games, falling to 2-4-1 overall and 0-2-1 in league play.  The two teams conclude the series with a Sunday matinee at 2:07 p.m.

On the game-winning goal, the Mavericks were in the middle of their second power play resulting from a major penalty taken by UMD.  Andrej Sustr walked in from the left point and fired a shot that was blocked over the net.  The puck hit the glass and bounced
at the feet of Dominic Zombo who threw a blind pass between his legs to Young who steered in his third goal of the year.

The Mavericks raced out to an early 2-0 lead.  Just 38 seconds into the game, Ryan Walters centered the puck to Josh Archibald who rammed it past goalie Matt McNeely for his team-leading sixth goal of the year.

The Mavs doubled their lead on a power play later in the period.  Sustr had a shot blocked, but the puck bounced to Walters who fired home his second of the season.

The Bulldogs got on the board thanks to a five-on-three power play.  Tony Cameranesi set up Mike Seidel who fired a shot past a helpless John Faulkner.

UMD then tied the game with just 22 seconds remaining in the period.  Cameranesi took a pass from Justin Crandall and cut to the slot.  His first shot was blocked, but he scooped up the puck and roofed a shot over Faulkner to knot the game.

The Bulldogs outshot the Mavericks 18-8 in the second period, but UNO had the best chance of the stanza when Bryce Aneloski took a feed from Zahn Raubenheimer and broke in alone on McNeely.  The 6-3 UMD goalie stretched out across the line, grabbing Aneloski's shot at the goal line to keep the game tied.

The Mavericks were outshot for the first time this season as UMD finished with a 32-25 edge.  Faulkner stopped 30 shots to improve to 5-0-1 on the year while McNeely finished with 22 saves.
