OMAHA, Neb. – Northern Michigan got out to a two-goal lead and hung on for a 2-1 win over the Omaha hockey team on Saturday night at the CenturyLink Center.
The two teams split the weekend series following UNO's 5-2 win on Friday. The Mavericks, now 2-2-0 this season, play their first WCHA games next weekend when they host Bemidji State on Friday and Saturday, Oct. 26 and 27.
Northern Michigan opened the scoring at 17:52 of a round and tumble first period. Stephan Vigier was tripped coming into the UNO zone, but he sent the puck along to Ryan Daugherty. He snapped a shot over the shoulder of Anthony Stolarz for his second goal of the season.
The Wildcats stretched their lead early in the second period when Ryan Aynsley slammed home a pass from Matt Thurber at 4:19.
It took just 61 seconds for the Mavs to answer.

UNO outshot Northern Michigan 16-6 in the third period but could not put another shot by goalie Jared Coreau. For the game, UNO had a 36-23 shot advantage.
