CALGARY, Alberta - The U.S. National Junior Team got a natural hat trick from Austin Watson to beat Latvia, 12-2, in the relegation round of the 2012 International Ice Hockey Federation World Junior Championship. UNO's
Josh Archibald had an assist in the game.
"I was happy with our effort and intensity," said
Dean Blais, UNO's head coach who is leading the American squad. "It was good to see our offense gel today and hopefully that can continue tomorrow."
The U.S. is now 2-0-0-3 (W-OTW-OTL-L) and will play Switzerland on Wednesday, Jan. 4 in its last game of the tournament. If the U.S. wins, it will finish in seventh place. The game will begin at 4 p.m. CT and can be streamed live at NHL.com.
The Americans led 4-0 after the first period as Watson scored the first three goals of the game. Archibald picked up his assist on the third goal. Watson finished the game with seven points to tie the U.S. National Junior Team single game record set by Ted Drury and Dough Weight in 1991.
