OVERLAND PARK, Kan. - The 21st-ranked UNO softball team won its second-round game on Friday to advance to the third round of the MIAA Softball Tournament after a 4-0 win over Fort Hays State at the Blue Valley Recreation Complex.
Lindsey Slocum pitched a complete-game shutout, allowing just five hits and striking out 12, while
Katelyn Hinton hit a two-run triple in the first inning and
Lauren Larson added a two-run homer in the fifth inning for the final margin.
The third-seeded Mavs will take on top-seeded Missouri Western, who rallied from a 6-0 deficit to defeat Missouri Southern, 7-6. Missouri Western scored four runs in the sixth inning and three more in the bottom of the seventh for the walk-off victory.
The Mavs and Griffons will meet on Saturday at 3 p.m., with the winner advancing to the championship game on Sunday, while the loser will have to battle back through the loser's bracket on Saturday evening.
UNO's
Molly Feichtinger went 2-for-3 with two runs scored against the 7th-seeded Tigers, who earlier in the day had run-ruled No. 2 seed Emporia State, 9-1.
