MARYVILLE, Mo. - The 21st-ranked UNO softball team split a pair of 1-0 games with Northwest Missouri State on Tuesday, bringing an end to the Mavericks' 12-game winning streak.
The league-leading Mavericks are now 30-6 on the season and 7-1 in MIAA play. The Bearcats are 19-9 and 8-2 in the MIAA.
The Mavericks started the day with a 1-0 win, thanks to a one-hitter thrown by senior #
Beth Haley#, who improved to 13-3 on the year. Haley struck out eight and walked just one while winning her 10th straight start and shutting out her fourth straight opponent.
#
Lindsay Redding#, serving as a pinch-hitter, singled home the only run of the game in the fifth inning on a single through the right side that scored #
Ashley Lynch#, who had reached on a double to left field. #
Molly Feichtinger# went 2-for-3 with a double.
But the Bearcats snapped the Mavs' streak with a 1-0 win in game two. Northwest scored in the first inning on an RBI single by Hailee Hendricks, then relied on the arm of Morgan Brunmeier, who improved to 9-2 this season. Brunmeier held UNO to just three hits in the game.
#
Lindsey Slocum# put together a solid outing for UNO, allowing just three hits while striking out eight and walking none, but took the loss to fall to 8-2. The first three hitters of the game for Northwest got hits off of Slocum, but the senior All-American then shut down NWMSU, allowing no one to reach first base in the final five innings.
However, UNO was unable to finish off a rally attempt in the top of the seventh. #
Lauren Larson# reached on an error, then Slocum singled after an #
Amber Lutmer# pop-up, putting Larson at second. The runners moved up a base after #
Alli Hukill# grounded out to second base. But with runners in scoring position, Brunmeier got Lynch to fly out to end the game.
The Mavs face their first MIAA home contests of this season this weekend, as Central Missouri visits for a 1 p.m. doubleheader on Friday, and Southwest Baptist comes to Omaha for a 1 p.m. series on Saturday.
