JOPLIN, Mo. - The No. 21 UNO softball team shut out Missouri Southern in the first game of their doubleheader Friday afternoon, 2-0, then erupted for eight runs in the last two innings of game two for an 11-4 victory in the nightcap.
The wins marked the eighth and ninth in a row for UNO, which now sits at 27-5 overall and 4-0 in the MIAA. Missouri Southern fell to 13-13 and 0-2 in conference play.
In the first game, the Mavericks scored once in the first and once in the third to give #
Beth Haley# all the run support she needed.
Haley pitched a complete-game shutout, allowing five hits and two walks while striking out nine. The senior has now pitched three shutouts in her last four games and has allowed just two earned runs in her last 61.2 innings pitched.

Katelyn Hinton# drew a lead-off walk to start the game, then reached second on a bunt single by #
Molly Feichtinger#. The duo then moved up a base on a double steal, allowing Hinton to score from third when #
Amber Lutmer# fouled out to the right fielder.
In the third inning, Hinton and Feichtinger again set the tone, with Hinton reaching first on an error by the left fielder, then stealing second and advancing to third on an error by the shortstop. Feichtinger doubled home Hinton for the 2-0 margin.
Feichtinger finished 3-for-3 with one RBI. Hinton went 1-2 with both runs scored and three stolen bases.
In the second half of the doubleheader, the Lions took a 3-1 lead heading into the fourth inning. UNO momentarily tied the game in the top of the fourth on an #

Missouri Southern jumped back in front with a run in the fifth inning, but the Mavs busted open the game with four runs in the sixth inning and four runs in the seventh. #
Ashley Lynch hit an RBI single that scored Amber Lutmer#, then #
Emma Wright# singled in Lynch and Hukill for a 6-4 lead. Hinton's single to left center then scored Wright.

Lindsay Redding# closed out the scoring with an RBI single.
Slocum picked up the complete-game win in the circle to improve to 8-1 this season.
The Mavericks travel to Pittsburg, Kan., to face Pittsburg State on Saturday in a doubleheader beginning at Noon.
