HAYS, Kan. - The 24th-ranked UNO softball team began MIAA play on Friday with a doubleheader sweep of Fort Hays State. The Mavs took game one, 4-2, before completing the sweep with a 5-3 win in game two.
UNO improved to 23-5 this season and 2-0 in MIAA play, while Fort Hays State dropped to 12-10 on the season and 0-2 in the MIAA.

Amber Lutmer#, her team-high eighth of the season.

Ashley Lynch had an RBI single in the second inning to get UNO on the board early. Lauren Larson added two hits. Beth Haley# improved to 9-3 in the circle with the complete-game win. Haley has allowed just two earned runs in her last seven starts.
In the nightcap, UNO built a 5-0 lead heading into the bottom of the sixth inning, but the Lady Tigers made things interesting with a bases-clearing double by Malinee Powell to make it 5-3 heading into the seventh inning.

Lindsey Slocum# allowed a runner to reach base on a single with two outs in the bottom of the seventh, but the All-American held onto the win by forcing Sara Tani to pop up to #
Molly Feichtinger# at shortstop to end the game.
Lutmer went 2-for-3 with two RBIs on a double and a single to lead the Mavericks in the second game. Lutmer had five of the Mavs' eight RBIs on the day.
***Saturday's scheduled doubleheader between UNO and Washburn has been postponed because of expected inclement weather. The date of the make-up games has not been determined yet.***
