Washburn Downs Mavericks, 7-2

OMAHA, Neb. -- The UNO women's tennis team dropped a hard-fought conference match Saturday night, falling 7-2 to Washburn at Hanscom Park Tennis Center.

Washburn opened the contest by taking two of the three doubles matches, as Alyssa Castillo and Jamie Blackim defeated #Traci Moklestad and Kelsie Olson#, 8-4, followed by Morgan Rainey and Whitley Zitsch topping #Heather Hottman and Samantha Thomas by the same score. Caitlin Christy and Jessica Hottman# earned the Mavs' only doubles win with an 8-4 victory over Elektra Hunter and Annie Doole.

In No. 1 singles action, WU's Rainey defeated Moklestad, 6-7, 6-0, 6-1, followed by a win for UNO at the No. 2 spot by Olson against Zitsch (6-4, 7-6).

WU then took the rest of the matches -- Hunter over Heather Hottman (6-3, 2-6, 6-2) and Blackim over Thomas (7-5, 2-6, 6-0), respectively. Castillo defeated Jessica Hottman in straight sets, 6-3, 6-4, and McKee closed the match with a 6-3, 3-6, 10-8 win over Christy.

UNO returns to action on Saturday, March 19, traveling to Truman at 10 a.m.
