Women's Tennis sweeps South Dakota

VERMILLION, S.D. - Omaha Women's Tennis defeated South Dakota, 7-0, on the road Friday Afternoon to secure a winning conference record.

This was Omaha's first time sweeping a conference opponent since April 2, 2022, when the Mavs beat St. Thomas 7-0. With this win, Omaha has clinched a spot in the Summit League tournament.

The Mavericks (14-8, 4-0 Summit League) secured the match win thanks to a win in the No. 5 flight from Senior Jacqueline Pearsall (Centennial, Colo.) over South Dakota's Ava Doddridge. Pearsall took the first set 6-2 before playing an even more dominant second set to win 6-1 and sealing her 10th singles victory of the spring.

Pearsall was one of three Mavericks to lose only three games on their way to victory. Sophomore Katelynn Kock (Cedar Rapids, Iowa) won 6-1, 6-2 in the No. 3 match and freshman Corinne Barber (Lincoln, Neb.) won 6-2, 6-1.

The dynamic doubles duo comprised of sophomore Nina Wiese (Flushing, N.Y.) and Kock won their 18th match of the spring with a 6-3 victory over South Dakota's Marra and Kayleigh Didderiens. The pair is now tied for second in single-season doubles wins. With two matches left in the regular season, Wiese and Kock need one more win to tie the single-season record and two wins to break it.

"Good sweep to start the weekend," head coach Adam Summitt said. "We haven't swept a conference opponent in a while and doing that on the road was great to see. We struggled to get momentum in doubles. Credit to South Dakota for challenging us. After the doubles point, we were able to get off to quick starts and dictate the match. It's never easy to do so on the road and we hope to continue this on Sunday."

The Mavericks have one final road match of the regular season. They will face Kansas City at 2 p.m. CT on Sunday, April 12. Live stats will be available.
