OMAHA, Neb. – #John Faulkner# earned his NCAA-leading fifth shutout of the season as the UNO Mavericks beat Alabama-Huntsville 4-0 on Friday night at Qwest Center Omaha.  Rich Purslow had a goal and an assist to lead the UNO attack.

The Mavericks improved to 14-9-2 on the year while the Chargers dropped to 3-24-2.

UNO lead 2-0 after two periods and dodged a bullet early in the third when it looked as if the Chargers had scored off a net mouth scramble to make it 2-1.  But after a review, the referee waved off the goal, and the Mavericks struck on their next shift.

Matt Ambroz slid behind the next and tucked the puck in front to Purslow who knocked in his eighth goal of the year.

Just 39 seconds later, #Brock Montpetit took a pass out of the corner from Ryan Walters# and slipped in his seventh of the season to make it 4-0.

The last challenge to Faulkner's shutout bid came with 1:13 remaining in the third when #Bryce Aneloski# was whistled for interfering with UAH's Justin Cseter who had broken free.  Cseter was given a penalty shot, but Faulkner turned him aside to preserve the score.  Faulkner finished the game with 20 saves in earning his school-record fifth whitewash.

The Mavericks broke the scoreless tie at the end of a power play in the second period.  They kept the pressure on, and Alex Hudson swept in the rebound of a shot by Eric Olimb for his eighth goal of the year.

Then with a late power play, the Mavs scored with one-tenth of a second remaining when Matt White fired home a cross-crease pass from Walters to make it 2-0.

The two teams finish their series on Saturday night at 7:07 p.m.  The game will be televised live statewide on NET-1.
