OVERLAND PARK, Kan. - The Mavericks' school-record winning streak came to an end Friday against Emporia State but UNO bounced back in the elimination final against Fort Hays State to advance to the championship round of the MIAA postseason tournament.
The Mavericks (48-10) fell, 4-2 against ESU in the winner's bracket final. They then dropped into the loser's bracket final and knocked off the Tigers, 8-3 to set up a rematch of last year's MIAA final and a pairing of the MIAA regular season co-champions. UNO and ESU will play at noon Saturday and they'll play again right after that if UNO wins.
The Mavs left four runners on base in the first three innings against ESU and they were down, 1-0 in the bottom of the fourth. #
Kristi Meneely# then hit a solo home run to right field to tie the game.

Alli Hukill# hit an RBI single, setting up a chance for the Mavs to get the win in the seventh. Hornet Abby Hughes tied it with a solo shot and then a two-run shot from Amanda Self put ESU up, 4-2.
The Mavs put runners on first and second in the bottom of the seventh but couldn't get any runs in.

Beth Haley# suffered the loss, falling to 20-3 on the year. She gave up eight hits with six strikeouts and four walks.
After leaving nine runners on base against ESU, UNO answered quickly in the next game against the Tigers. #
Molly Feichtinger hit an infield single and Lindsey Slocum walked in the first. Kristin Wellwood and Julia Krejci# then drove them in with RBI singles.

Katelyn Hinton#, who went 3 for 4 in the game with three RBI, hit a solo homer in the second and Hukill singled in a run in the third. Slocum drove one in with a hit in the fourth to put UNO up, 5-0.
The Tigers answered with two in the bottom of the fourth but the Mavs got three more in the fifth.
Katelyn Hinton hit a two-run single and then advanced all the way to third on an error by the center fielder. She then scored on a hit from Treighton Yates.
That gave the Mavs a five-run lead but the Tigers looked like they were going to mount a comeback in the bottom of the fifth as the first two batters singled. Feichtinger put an end to any chance of a rally when she snagged a liner at shortstop and doubled up the runner at second. The Tigers didn't put anyone else on base after that.
Slocum pitched the win, improving to 19-2. She allowed seven hits with six strikeouts and no walks.
