Hukill Powers Mavs to Win Over No. 4 ESU

MARYVILLE, Mo. - #Alli Hukill# hit a pair of home runs, driving in five runs as the Mavericks defeated fourth-ranked Emporia State, 7-2 Friday evening in the first day of the MIAA Northern Crossover. The Mavericks improved to 30-9 with the win and will continue action Saturday against Southwest Baptist at 10 a.m. and Pittsburg State at 12 p.m.

#Julia Krejci# led off the second inning with a single and then she was driven in when Hukill hit her fifth homer of the year. Hukill then hit her sixth in the fifth inning, driving in Krejci and #Emma Wright#.

#Lindsey Slocum# earned the win and improved to 13-2. She allowed two earned runs and five hits while striking out six. She helped out her cause by singling in the fifth and then later scoring on a hit from Wright.

The Mavs did all their damage before the Hornets could score. They got two in the sixth off a home run from Miranda Campbell but didn't get any closer.
