Box Score

OMAHA, Neb. – A record-setting crowd at Qwest Center Omaha saw UNO skate to a 5-5 tie with Ohio State before the Mavericks won a seven-round shootout, 3-2.  Freshman #Terry Broadhurst# scored a natural hat trick, and #Matt Ambroz# had a four-point night to propel UNO offense.

The drama played out in front of a school-record crowd of 13,417 at the Qwest Center.  The Mavs are now 13-12-6 on the season and 9-11-3-2 in the Central Collegiate Hockey Association.  The two teams play again on Saturday night at 7:05 p.m.

With the game tied at four apiece, Broadhurst completed his three-goal night with a shot through traffic off a feed from Eric Olimb during an early power play in the third period.

Ohio State tied the game with just 1:34 to go in regulation when C.J. Severyn converted a pass from Matt Bartkowski for his second goal of the night.

After a scoreless overtime, both teams were stopped in the first two rounds of the shootout.  Zac Dalpe, who had four assists in the game, scored in the third round.  #John Kemp# answered to force a sudden death shootout.

Hunter Bishop scored in the fifth round, but Joey Martin responded to extend it.  Finally in the seventh round, #Jeremie Dupont# stopped Matt Bartkowski and at the other end, #Rich Purslow# beat OSU goalie Cal Heeter to give the Mavericks the extra standings point.

Ohio State started the scoring just 34 seconds into the game when Hunter Bishop tipped in a shot by Shane Sims to make it 1-0.

Sergio Somma scored again just 1:22 later to put the Buckeyes up 2-0.

#Joey Martin# responded for the Mavericks, sliding home his seventh of the year but just 17 seconds later, the Buckeyes got a second goal from Somma to make it 3-1.

The Mavericks did not wilt and once again closed to within a goal when Ambroz knocked in his ninth of the season at 11:22.

In the second period, the Buckeyes used the power play to extend their lead to two goals for the third time.  Kyle Reed scooped up a rebound and threw it past Dupont to make it, 4-2.

But the Mavericks made the most of their own power plays against the CCHA's worst penalty killing team.  Broadhurst banged home his first goal off the rebound of a shot by Olimb at 11:03.

Broadhurst then tied the game a little more than six minutes later when he picked up a ricochet off the end boards and banked the puck in off Heeter.

Broadhurst is the first UNO player to notch a hat trick since Brandon Scero scored three against Bowling Green on March 3, 2007.  The Mavericks also had a season-high three powerplay goals in the game.
