JOPLIN, Mo. - The Mavericks won a pair of games at the Missouri Southern/Pittsburg State Crossover Saturday to move their record above .500 for the first time this year.
Nebraska-Omaha (5-4) defeated Northwest Missouri, 17-2 in five innings in the morning game and then topped Southeastern Oklahoma State, 8-5 in the evening game. UNO will wrap up action in Joplin Sunday against Missouri S&T and Northeastern State.
The Mavericks pounded out 17 hits in the opener against the Bearcats. #
Alli Hukill# hit a home run and she and
Katelyn Hinton each had three RBI. Kristen Wellwood added a career-high five RBI.
Wellwood drove in the first run in the opening inning with a sacrifice fly and then the flood gates opened with a three-run second and eight-run third for the Mavs. Hukill hit her homer in the second and then in the third the Mavs scored all of their runs with two outs.
Wellwood hit a two-run double and
Lindsey Slocum had two hits and an RBI in the inning. Hukill, #
Treightin Yates# and Hinton also had RBI in the inning.
The scoring didn't stop after that as UNO scored five more in the fourth off five hits. Hinton and Wellwood each had two-run singles and Yates had an RBI single.
Slocum pitched the first four innings and didn't surrender a hit while striking out eight. #
Beth Haley# pitched the fifth inning for UNO before the run-rule was enforced.
