OXFORD, Ohio – The UNO Mavericks scored three unanswered goals to come from behind and beat the #1 Miami RedHawks on Saturday night at Steve Cady Arena.  The win helped the Mavericks split the two-game weekend series, their final regular season games in the Central Collegiate Hockey Association.

It marked the first time UNO has beaten a top-ranked team since knocking off Michigan State in October of 2000.  The win snapped the Mavericks' twelve-game winless streak against Miami, giving them their first win over the RedHawks since Jan. 21, 2005.  In the process, UNO snapped Miami's 23-game unbeaten streak (19-0-4) against the rest of the CCHA.

With the win, the Mavericks improved to 17-13-6 overall and 13-12-3-2 in the CCHA.  They finish the regular season with a non-conference series against #5/7 Bemidji State on Friday and Saturday, Feb. 26 and 27 at Qwest Center Omaha.  Friday's game begins at 7:35 p.m., and Saturday's game faces off at 8:05 p.m.

With the game tied at two, #Alex Hudson# broke the deadlock less than four minutes into the third period.  He won a face-off back to #Rich Purslow# who sent a shot on goalie Connor Knapp.  Hudson grabbed the rebound and stuffed it home for his 12th goal of the year.

Just 1:32 later, #Matt Ambroz# converted off a scramble at the side of the Miami net, banking the puck in off of Knapp for his tenth goal of the season.

UNO played strong defense down the stretch, limiting the RedHawks to just four shots on goal in the final period.

UNO opened the scoring 3:55 into the game.  #Nick Fanto# walked down the left wing and threw a wrist shot though the pads of Knapp.  It was his ninth goal of the season and his 50th career point.

Miami answered in the last minute of the first.  Tommy Wingels set up Carter Camper for a one-timer that beat #Jeremie Dupont# to make it 1-1 after one.

The RedHawks took their only lead of the game at 7:59 of the second period when Tommy Wingels scored his 15th of the season.

The Mavs answered back less than four minutes later.  Hudson set up Purslow for a wrist shot that trickled into the net off the glove of Knapp.

Dupont earned the win in goal with 26 saves as UNO outshot Miami, 31-28.
