COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – #John Faulkner# set a new school record for shutouts, backstopping the UNO hockey team to a 3-0 win over Colorado College on Sunday night at World Arena.  The win gave the Mavericks a split of the two-game weekend series.

The Mavericks enter the Christmas break with a record of 12-5-1 and a mark of 9-4-1 in the WCHA.  That's good for fourth place, just one point behind Denver and Minnesota Duluth which are tied for second. 

The Tigers had a six-game winning streak snapped and are now 11-8-1 overall and 8-6-0 in league play.

Faulkner stopped 24 shots to earn his fourth shutout of the season, breaking Dan Ellis' school record of three set in two different seasons.

UNO was forced to kill back-to-back penalties in the late going of the first period and did so successfully.  That led to their first goal.  #Alex Hudson# blocked a pass from defenseman Gabe Guentzel out to center ice.  Matt White scooped it up and roared in on a breakaway, beating goalie Joe Howe with a backhander to put UNO up 1-0 after one.

Following a scoreless second period, the Mavericks added to their lead when #Matt Ambroz# forced a turnover, starting a rush for #Joey Martin#.  He slid a pass to #Rich Purslow# who fired it home to make it 2-0 less than six minutes into the third period.

Brock Montpetit finished the scoring, knocking home a pass from Ryan Walters at 10:25.  Tony Turgeon started the play with a check at the UNO blue line.  He also earned an assist.

Howe made 38 saves in the loss for Colorado College which was outshot by the Mavericks, 41-24.

The Mavericks will now enjoy a holiday break before returning to action on Thursday and Friday, Dec. 30 and 31 at Quinnipiac.
