COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – The Colorado College Tigers took advantage of 11 power plays to score three powerplay goals in a 5-2 win over the UNO Mavericks on Saturday night at World Arena.
The loss drops the Mavericks to 11-5-1 on the year and 8-4-1 in the WCHA. With its sixth straight win, the Tigers improve to 11-7-1 overall and 8-5-0 in the league, now just one point behind the Mavericks.
#Alex Hudson opened the scoring when he took a pass from Zahn Raubenheimer# and rifled home his seventh goal of the season at 3:50.
The Tigers answered with goals from Archie Skalbeck and Omaha native Nick Dineen on the power play to lead 2-1 after one.
#Terry Broadhurst# tied the game just 3:31 into the second period when he redirected a pass from #Matt Ambroz# for his sixth goal of the year.
But the Mavericks were whistled for six consecutive minor penalties, and the Tigers took advantage. Tyler Johnson and Dineen both scored to stake Colorado College to a 4-2 lead after two periods.
Dineen finished off the hat trick with a goal at 14:27 of the third period to conclude the scoring.
The Mavericks were 0-for-2 on the power play and had just 1:39 of man advantage time. The Mavs were whistled for 42 penalty minutes while the Tigers were dinged for just six.
#John Faulkner# made 21 saves in the loss while Joe Howe turned aside 20 to earn the win.
The two teams will complete the weekend series on Sunday at 7:07 p.m. CT.
