OMAHA, Neb. – The UNO Mavericks got two goals and an assist from Johnnie Searfoss to win their first ever WCHA home game, beating Minnesota State, 5-1 on Friday night at Qwest Center Omaha.  #Rich Purslow# had three assists to help power the attack.

The Mavericks improved to 6-1-0 overall and 3-0-0 in the WCHA while Minnesota State dipped to 2-3-4 overall and 2-3-2 in league play.  The two teams play the second game of the series on Saturday night at 7:07 p.m. at Qwest Center.

UNO took the lead late in the first period.  Working the puck from behind the Minnesota State net, Searfoss found Bryce Aneloski pinching from the point.  He slipped a backhand shot around goalie Phil Cook for his first collegiate goal at 13:07.

The UNO Mavericks put two more on the board in the second.  Brock Montpetit and Zahn Raubenheimer forced a turnover and fed Ryan Walters for a tip in for his second goal of the year.

Then with 1:09 to go in the period, #Joey Martin# pounced on the rebound of a shot by Purslow and slammed home his second goal of the year.

Minnesota State got into penalty trouble in the third period, and UNO took advantage.  #Eric Olimb# fired a shot that Searfoss tipped in during a five-on-three power play to make it 4-0.  The shot beat goalie Austin Lee who came in for Cook to start the third period.

Just 29 seconds later, Searfoss was at it again, redirecting a pass from Purslow for another powerplay goal to put UNO up by a handful.

Joe Schiller ruined #John Faulkner#'s shutout bid when he scored at 12:46.  Faulkner finished with 27 saves to improve to 6-1-0 on the year.

UNO was two-for-seven  on the power play while stopping all seven Minnesota State man advantages.
