OMAHA, Neb. – The Alaska Nanooks broke a tie game with two third period goals to beat the UNO hockey team 3-1 on Friday night at Qwest Center Omaha.  The Mavericks lost for just the second time at home to fall to 9-9-5 overall and 5-8-2-1 in the Central Collegiate Hockey Association.

The Mavericks will host the Nanooks again on Saturday night at 7:05 p.m. in the final regular season meeting.

Nik Yaremchuk scored a powerplay goal with 4:23 gone in the third period and Dion Knelsen added his tenth of the year with less than two minutes to go in the game for insurance as Alaska won for the second time in three meetings with the Mavericks.

The Nanooks seized the advantage just 51 seconds into the game when Andy Taranto picked off a loose puck at center ice, raced down the right wing and beat goalie #John Faulkner# with a sharp wrist shot.

UNO tied the game on a powerplay late in the second period.  #Alex Hudson# shook off a check, walked out of the left wing corner and beat Alaska's goalie Scott Greenham with a snap shot over his right shoulder.  Faulkner picked up an assist on the goal, the first of his college career.

Faulkner took the loss in goal for UNO with 18 saves.  He is now 7-7-4 on the year.  Greenham was the far busier goaltender, earning his tenth win with 41 saves.

UNO is now 7-2-1 at home this season.
