Lindsey Slocum hit two home runs and
Julia Krejci's pinch hit blast in the fifth inning ended the game Friday as the Mavericks beat Pittsburg State, 9-0 in the first round of the MIAA postseason tournament.
Nebraska-Omaha improved to 41-13 and will play at 8 p.m. Friday in the second round against the Central Missouri/Pittsburg State winner at Blue Valley Recreation Complex.
Slocum hit a two-run shot in the first inning and then
Alli Hukill hit a three-run shot later in the frame.
Slocum then hit her second homer of the night with a solo shot in the third inning.
Up 6-0 in the bottom of the fifth, Krejci pinch hit in the ninth spot in the lineup with two outs and two on and she took the count full before she took one over the fence to enact the run-rule.
All of UNO runs came off homers and they all cleared the center field fence.
Melissa Negrete pitched the win for UNO and went to 16-6. She gave up two hits in the first inning and then just two the rest of the way. She struck out two and walked one.
