Treightin Yates led off both games of a doubleheader sweep with a triple and she went 5 for 6 as the Mavericks swept Upper Iowa 9-2 and 7-0 Wednesday evening at Claussen-Westgate Field.
The sweep improved UNO to 30-7 and gave the school its 20th straight 30-win season, dating back to 1990.
Yates scored after both triples and she had one of three RBI singles in a five-run fifth inning in game one for UNO.
Katelyn Hinton and
Molly Feichtinger also drove in runs with hits in the fifth and
Chelsea Koch's ground out drove in one more.
The Mavs were down 2-1 before that big inning put them up 5-2 and the Mavs added three more in the sixth when Feichtinger singled in a run and
Jenna Dell drove in two with a single.
Melissa Negrete pitched the first six innings for UNO and allowed the two runs off three hits with three strikeouts and a walk.
In game two Yates' triple ignited a five-run first inning for the Mavs. Dell and
Amanda Bader had back-to-back RBI doubles and then Koch had in RBI single. Hinton then drove in the fifth run with a single down the left field line.
Lindsey Slocum pitched the second game and allowed just three hits and the shutout improved her to 9-0 this year. She struck out eight.
The Mavericks gave her two more insurance runs when Dell drove in a run with a double in the fourth and then Yates singled in a run in the fifth.
Dell was 3 for 4 in the games with four RBI.
