Mavericks Headed for First MIAA Tournament as No.

Complete Release

This Week
The 25th-ranked University of Nebraska at Omaha softball team will travel to Overland Park, Kan., for the MIAA postseason tournament.  The tournament is scheduled to begin on Thursday and will run through Saturday.  As the No. 4 seed the Mavericks will take on the fifth-seeded Pittsburg State Gorillas at 6 p.m. Thursday in the first round.  Second round games and first round consolation games will be played at 8 p.m. Thursday.

The Records
The Mavericks improved their record to 40-13 on the season and 14-6 in the MIAA after sweeping Southwest Baptist and splitting doubleheaders at Pittsburg State, Missouri Southern and Central Missouri. Pittsburg State is 31-22 on the year, 11-9 in the MIAA and 1-1 against the Mavericks.

The Coaches
Jeanne Scarpello is in her tenth season as the UNO head coach.  She entered the 2009 season just three wins shy of reaching 400 wins for her career. She reached that milestone in just the fourth game of the season when the Mavs defeated Saint Edward's on February 21.  Her record now stands at 436-134-1 including four conference titles, nine straight trips to the NCAA Division II tournament, and a national championship in 2001.  She is assisted by Michala Cimino (12th season), Cory Petermann (9th season), and Steven Boulton (1st season).

Season Leaders
Treightin Yates continues to lead the team in batting average hitting .319.  Yates is also the team leader in hits (51), and in runs (30).  Jenna Dell is the team leader in RBI with 32 and is tied with Katelyn Hinton for the team lead in home runs with seven each.  Lindsey Slocum leads the team in strike-outs with 121.  Melissa Negrete, who improved to 15-6 last week, leads the team in wins and era with a 1.29 earned run average.

The Series
After splitting a doubleheader at Pittsburg State earlier this season the Mavericks hold a six game edge over the Gorillas.  Including the two games played on April 21, the all-time series record is now 11-5.

Coming Up
UNO will look for a berth in the NCAA South Central Region tournament next weekend.  The tournament is set to begin on May 8 and will conclude on May 9.
