OMAHA, Neb. - The Mavericks swept Truman Sunday in their regular season home finale, winning 5-3 in game one and 9-1 in five innings in game two. Between games Nebraska-Omaha honored
Amanda Bader, the lone senior on the team, in Senior Day ceremonies as she played her final home games as a Maverick.
No. 19 Nebraska-Omaha improved to 35-10 overall and 9-3 in the MIAA and will play its final eight MIAA games on the road. That stretch will start Tuesday at Pittsburg State in a 1 p.m. doubleheader.
In game one the Mavericks had a 3-0 lead until the Bulldogs plated three runs in the top of the sixth. In the bottom of the inning
Ashley Lynch walked and later scored on a single up the middle from
Molly Feichtinger. On the play the throw came home to try to get Lynch and Feichtinger took second. The catcher threw to second to try to get her but it was wild and Feichtinger advanced all the way home on the error to give UNO a 5-3 lead.
Beth Haley, pitching her second inning of relief, then gave up two singles in the top of the seventh but a double play and a groundout ended the game and gave UNO the win.
Treightin Yates singled in the first inning for UNO and scored on an RBI single from Feichtinger. In the fourth inning
Kristi Meneely drove in a run with a double and in the fifth
Alli Hukill drove in a run with an RBI ground out.
Melissa Negrete shut out TSU through the first five innings. In the sixth she gave up the three tying runs before getting pulled. Haley (10-4) pitched the final 1 1/3 innings to get the win.
In game two the Mavs envoked the run rule with five runs in the fifth. They opened the inning with three straight singles and Feichtinger's RBI single later gave UNO an eight-run lead to end the game. She was 3 for 3 in that game with three RBI and two runs scored and Bader was 2 for 2 with an RBI and two runs.
UNO scored three two-out runs in the first inning.
Lindsey Slocum drove in two with a double and then Hukill drove her in with a single.
Slocum pitched a complete-game victory and struck out six. She allowed five hits and a walk to improve to 12-1.
